A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth kitchen makeover. Here’s how to prepare your home and yourself for the transformation ahead.
Before Installation Day
Clear Your Cabinets
Empty all cupboards, drawers, and worktop surfaces. Pack items carefully and label boxes for easy unpacking later. This prevents damage and allows fitters to work efficiently.
Set Up a Temporary Kitchen
Choose a space for kettle, microwave, and essentials. Stock up on paper plates and disposable cutlery. Plan simple meals or takeaway options for installation days.
Clear the Work Area
Remove tables, chairs, and any moveable furniture from the kitchen. Clear a path from the front door for material delivery. Protect adjacent floors with dust sheets if needed.
Arrange Childcare and Pet Care
Busy work areas aren’t safe for little ones or curious pets. Arrange for them to be elsewhere during installation, or at least create a secure separate area.
Practical Considerations
Access
Ensure fitters can easily access your home. Confirm parking arrangements for their van. Let neighbours know if work might affect shared access.
Utilities
Know where your stopcock is located for water shut-off. Understand your fuse board in case of electrical work. Ensure adequate power sockets are available for tools.
Waste Disposal
Discuss who handles waste removal. Some fitters take waste; others leave it for you to arrange. Old worktops and cabinets take up significant space.
Communication
Confirm All Details
Double-check installation dates, arrival times, and contact numbers. Understand the expected duration. Clarify what’s included and what’s your responsibility.
Decision Making
Ensure someone authorised to make decisions is available during installation. Minor issues always arise, and quick decisions keep work moving.
Your Checklist
We provide a detailed checklist to all our customers before installation. Following it ensures your makeover proceeds smoothly from start to finish.
